Ofosu-Ampofo returns to CID March 12

National Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Ofusu-Ampofo National Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Ofusu-Ampofo

The Chairman of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Samuel Ofusu-Ampofo is to reappear before the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service on Tuesday, 12 March 2019, over a probe into his alleged comments captured on a secret recording.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo is alleged to have incited verbal attacks against the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) and the Chairman of the National Peace Council.

He reported to the CID for interrogations on Monday and then on Thursday but the process could not be completed.

Addressing the press afterwards, Mr Ofosu-Ampofo maintained that his integrity cannot be stained by a doctored tape, adding that the government ought to focus on resolving outstanding national issues, including the depreciation of the Ghana cedi instead of making political gains from his interrogation.

"They have told us that they are still carrying out their investigation, we are going and we will be reporting back on Tuesday", he said.

He said never has he insulted anybody or "acted against state authority" in his political career which spans close to 30 years.

In his view, the developments "are diversionary", but "we want to remain focused in winning 2020".

He said if there is an arrest to be made, the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) government should "focus on the US Dollar that has escaped and running away, and not focus on Ofosu-Ampofo. I am not a security threat to this country".
