The immediate past National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, has slammed Dennis Miracles Aboagye over his assertion that the NDC is disrespecting Ghanaians by telling them to re-elect former President John Dramani Mahama into office.
Miracle Aboagye, who is the Communications Director of Dr Bawumia's campaign team, contended that Mahama's candidacy in the pending December 2024 election was an insult to the people of Ghana. He added that the former president performed abysmally while in office and should not have considered contesting the 2024 elections.
Reacting to this in an interview on Metro TV’s 'Good Afternoon Ghana' on Monday, July 8, 2024, Ofosu-Ampofo refuted the argument by Miracles Aboagye that the eight years of the NPP government have been better than those of the NDC.
He added that the record of Mahama shows that he is far better than the flagbearer of the NPP, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who has landed Ghana’s economy in a ditch after being touted as an economic messiah.
"He's saying that we are being disrespectful to Ghanaians by asking that John Mahama should come back again. For me, what he is doing is the height of insensitivity and the height of disrespect to the people of Ghana.
"You have a vice president who is the chairman of the Economic Management Team; whom the president assured all Ghanaians that he brought him as a vice president because of his track record as a deputy governor of the Bank of Ghana. And he's coming to turn the fortunes of the economy of the country around," he said.
Ofosu-Ampofo added "If you are not a 'Miracle' person like Aboagye, you can’t come and justify this. You must be called a miracle to justify that somebody who managed to keep the dollar at GH¢4 before he left and one who took it from GH¢4 and then it's about GH¢16 now is facing a challenge. But John Mahama's one was mismanagement. Then you must be a miracle person. That is why I say that I'm not surprised that if you are not called 'Miracle', you cannot justify this."
