Ofosu Ampofo to withdraw suit against Tawia Boateng

National Vice Chairman of NDC, Ofosu-Ampofo National Vice Chairman of NDC, Ofosu-Ampofo

Director of elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said he will discontinue the libel suit he filed against the party’s Eastern regional Chairman, Tawia Boateng.

Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo who is also a national vice chairman of the NDC last year sued the party’s Eastern regional chairman and six others over accusations that he (Ofosu-Ampofo) leaked the Kwesi Botchway report – the report contains details of why the NDC lost the 2016 elections.

The libel suit named the Eastern regional chairman of the NDC, Bismark Tawiah Boateng; the Daily Guide newspaper and its publisher, Western Publications; Fortune Alimi, the Editor of the newspaper; William Yaw Owusu, a reporter of the newspaper, an Accra–based radio station, Okay FM, and a presenter at the station, Kwame Nkrumah (aka Tikesie) as defendants.

Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo’s decision to abdicate the case comes after a caller on Starr Chat pleaded with him to ‘tamper justice with mercy’.

“I will reconsider the issue with Tawia Boateng in court due to the caller who pleaded on his behalf,” he told Bola Ray on Starr Chat Wednesday in response to the caller’s plea.

“The voice of the people is the voice of God,” he added.

Hitherto to the call, he was resolute in his quest to pursue the case to the fullest to clear his name.

“That’s why I am in court. Because I thought it was a very serious allegation,” he stated.

He said the serializing of the report by the Daily Guide created a “lot of hullabaloo” and for the NDC’s Eastern regional chairman to have come out in the heat of “those issues to say that I have leaked the report to Daily Guide and others I thought that he had crossed the redline.”

When Bola Ray asked: “So you are not ready to let this go?” He replied: “Well, I decided that I want to set the record straight…because when serious allegations like this are made against you it is at the core of your integrity and then it is spread on the internet and WhatsApp and all over the world…the only you can do to extricate yourself is to go through the due process.”

“I have given several…several to the Lord. This one is an exception and that in future if you’re not careful and these things are documented [they] can even affect your children and so I just wanted to clear this one once and for all,” Mr. Ampofo who is also the NDC’s director of elections firmly upheld.
