Okadjakrom community gets new chief

Okadjakrom (V/R), Jan. 11, GNA - Mr Henry Brekumi Antwi, 43, a Senior Tax Administrator at the Internal Revenue Service, was enstooled as the Chief of Okadjakrom and Twafofohene of the Buem Traditional Area at the weekend, under the stool name Nana Osabarima Antwi Agyei V. The new chief succeeded the late Nana Kodam Agyei IV, who died five years ago.

Nana Agyei, clad in black traditional cloth swore the oath of allegiance to sub chiefs of the town and would proceed later to swear another oath to the Paramount of the area, Nana Aburam Akpandza. He later acknowledged cheers from the jubilant crowd as he thanked them amidst drumming and dancing.

He pledged to promote the cultural heritage of the area and improve on health and sanitation.

Nana Antwi also expressed his commitment to effective leadership, transparency, accountability, unity and peace.

He said he would initiate a scholarship scheme to support the needy but brilliant children, explaining that the most important asset of every nation is its citizens, especially the youth.

Osabarima Agyei advised parents to seek the welfare of their children and invest in their education.

He appealed to the people to support the National Health Insurance Scheme to ensure quality health care to facilitate the development of the area.

Osabarima Agyei said gone were the days when chiefs rallied their people to fight to expand their territories for fame, noting that modern traditional rulers are expected to mobilise human and natural resources towards development.

Nana Okagya Ntim II, Ankobeahene of the town noted that the worth of a leader is measured by his or her services to the community and humanity and advised the new chief to be just and use public money judiciously.

He advised the people to revive their communal spirit and support Osabarima Agyei for the development of the town. Mr Solomon Donkor, Jasikan District Chief Executive, advised traditional rulers to avoid partisan politics and support the national development agenda.

He appealed to the youth to be disciplined and support the new chief to enable him provide a credible and effective leadership. The Coalition For Peace and Development congratulated Nana Osabarima Agyei and assured him of its support and loyalty to ensure peace, unity and the development of Okadjakrom and the traditional area. In an address read on behalf of the President of the Coalition, Mr Burima Isaka the group expressed the hope that the new chief would foster peace, unity to ensure the socio-economic development of the town.
