Okoe-Boye lists Akufo-Addo’s achievements in health sector

Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye, the President’s representative at the Ministry of Health, has provided a list of achievements made by the government in the health sector under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's leadership.

During a working visit to the Tema General Hospital on May 2, 2024, Dr. Okoe-Boye emphasized the government's commitment to improving healthcare services for all citizens.

He particularly underscored the utilization of modern information and communication technology to respond to public health threats and manage patient data efficiently.

“We pledged amongst others to help create a Society of opportunities for all and we remain committed to this pledge. By the grace of God, we have kept an eagle eye on this pledge as a result of which we have distinguished ourselves in all sections of our economy including the Health Sector.

“We have made significant impact on the lives of our people, by this, we have kept faith with the people of Ghana by fulfilling the great majority of our promises,” he said.

Dr Okoe-Boye who doubles as the health minister designate waiting for parliamentary approval lauded the administration's dedication to addressing the longstanding challenges of inadequate healthcare infrastructure in the country.

He outlined completed projects and ongoing initiatives aimed at bolstering the healthcare system.

“The Government has chalked huge successes which range from Tertiary facilities to Primary Health care facilities are below,” he added.

Notable among such achievements include the completion of Phase II of the University of Ghana Medical Centre, the establishment of the Urology, Nephrology, and Kidney Transplant Centre at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, the Upper West Regional Hospital, and Ga East Regional Hospital, as well as district hospitals in various locations including Bekwai, Tepa, Nsawkaw, Twifo Praso, Somanya, Wheta, Sawla Tuna-Kalba, Buipe, Tolon and Sekyere Kumawu.

Moreover, he mentioned that several polyclinics have been established in both the Central and Greater Accra Regions, along with upgrades to existing medical facilities.

He also announced the construction and equipping of 12 new hospitals in various locations, the establishment of trauma hospitals in Anyinam and Obuasi, and the refurbishment of Enyiresi Hospital and Obuasi Health Centre.

He added that the government has secured funding for a series of ongoing and upcoming projects aimed at further addressing the infrastructure deficit in the health sector.

These include the construction and equipping of new hospitals in various locations, such as Jumapo, Kwabeng, and Adukrom, Kwabeng, Nkwetia, Achiase, Suame, Drobonso, Sobronum, etc.
