Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, the Minister of Health, has donated an ambulance to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) in a bid to enhance the hospital’s emergency health services.

The handover ceremony took place at UGMC on May 20, 2024, with Dr. Kwame Anim-Boamah, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of UGMC, receiving the ambulance on behalf of the centre.

Dr. Okoe Boye emphasized that this initiative is part of a broader effort to improve the operational capabilities of hospitals across the country.

"What we are trying to do is to get closer to the ground.

"We will make these visits often because seeing challenges or issues firsthand allows us to work more effectively towards solutions, unlike when reports come to you in the office,” he said.

He praised UGMC as one of the flagships, model health facilities in Ghana, describing it as a "typical blend of state and corporate excellence."

Dr. Kwame Anim-Boamah expressed gratitude on behalf of UGMC, noting that the ambulance will play a crucial role in their emergency response operations.

He reiterated the centre's commitment to providing top-notch medical services to the community.

The event was attended by staff of the UGMC and members of the board of directors of the Ministry of Health.
