The dreams of incumbent Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, to go unopposed in the upcoming primaries has been dashed, as the party has cleared his main competitor.
This follows the dismissal of a petition by the Appeal Committee against the candidature of William Mawuli Ahado.
Samuel Okudzeto, who is a proverbial “Robert Mugabe” on the prowl will now be given a good run for his money in the primaries slated for 24th August 2019.
The Appeal Committee at its sitting held at the Upper Terrace of the headquarters of the National Democratic Congress, Adabraka, Accra, between the 6th to 12th of August, 2019 cleared a number of aspirants including Willliam Mawuli Ahado as allegations leveled were found to have no merit.
Aveyime Dugame East Chairman, Simon Afetsrom (G090390001) and others had petitioned “contravention of guidelines for the conduct of the election of parliamentary candidates of the NDC pursuant to articles 40 & 41 of the constitution” contesting the eligibility and candidature of Mr. William Mawuli Ahado.
They argued Mr. Ahado is not known as a member of the branch in exception of his sister, Bula Rejoice Abla with Membership No. G090390023 who is the Women Organizer of the Aveyime Dugame East Branch and had recently defected from the NPP.
The petitioners said, “Mr. Ahado’s name mysteriously entered the register as he was not available or present at any of the meetings that granted members the prerogative to be registered in the current Party Register which contravenes the provisions in Article 8 Clause 2 c of the Party’s constitution.”
However, the allegations were roundly dismissed.
