Chicago, September 4 -- Members of the Okwahu United Association in North America at their annual convention accepted to fund elementary schools and Hospitals in the Kwahu-Nteso communities in Ghana.
The annual convention of the Okwahu United Association of USA and Canada was held at the Westin Hotel ,a 4 Star Hotel, of the Starwood Hotel chain near O'hare , Chicago.
Over 52 delegates from, New York, Washington DC, Connecticut, Ohio and the host ,Chicago attended the annual convention. Other attendees are Montreal and Toronto all from Canada andNew Jersey.
Massachusetts and Atlanta branches could not attend.
Members decried the deplorable state in some schools in the Kwahu-Nteso area of Ghana . Each affiliate organization was levied $1000.00 to be used in the rehabilitation of some selected schools in the area.
Pledges were also received to buy equipments such as,washing machines, dryers, pain killer and anti-fever medication,Tylenol and stethoscopes to be donated to hospitals in the area.
The event was sponsored by VIGO Remittance Corporation, a money transfer business in North America with branches all over the world.
The climax of the 2-day event was a dance for delegates on Saturday night at the grand ballroom of the Westin hotel, which was claded in VIGO’s paraphernalia , such as T-shirts, baseball caps, cups, pens and backpacks.
There was a raffle draw which some lucky ones won various items.
On Sunday, September 3rd,delegates were treated to sightseeing of interesting and historical places around the windy city, Chicago, in a luxury coach bus.
The convention ended with a big picnic at S. 8059 S. Artesian, Chicago.
Micheal Essuman is the current Secretary General of the vibrant organization with Mr. Kofi Dankwa as the treasurer.
Chicago takes over the chairmanship of the Okwahu United Association of North America for one year.
The next convention will take place at Ohio.
