Okyenhene institute "Mmofra Afahye"

Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin ,the Okyenhene has instituted “Mmofra Afahye’’or Children Festival as one of the annual festivals to be celebrated in the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area.

The festival is to be used to motivate, honor and inspire children in the traditional area to go to school and also to be used for thinking of how to promote education in the traditional area.

The Okyenhene made the pronouncement at the “Mmofra Afahye’’ celebration as part of his 15 years anniversary at Kyebi, under the theme “A secure future, our pledge to children’’.

The Okyenhene urged parents to take up the responsibility of the care for their children to avoid exposing them to the dangers of society.

He said though teachers were faced with challenges, they have the moral responsibility to teach the pupil in fulfillment of their obligation to society.

He congratulated all single parents, especially women for their enormous contribution towards the upkeep of their children.

Barimah Beyeeman, Sanahene of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area said, the celebration of the ‘’Mmofra Afahye’’ was to identify and nature the talents in the children.

Mr. Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere, the Eastern Regional Minister, appealed to the children to be obedient and respect their parents and teachers to help them grow into good citizens for the country.

He appealed to the traditional council and the President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs to help settle chieftaincy disputes in the Akyem Abuakwa area and the Eastern Region in general to help promote effective development of the region.

He called on all Ghanaians to take measures to prevent cholera, adding that, a healthy lifestyle and clean environment are surest ways of preventing cholera.

As part of the celebrations, the Okyenhene gave scholarships to two pupils from the basic to the university level.
