In almost what is gradually becoming an annual ritual, Sons of Bacchus (SOB), a group made up of past students of Commonwealth Hall of the University of Ghana, Legon who are also called VANDALS have once again donated items worth about GHC5000 to the inmates of the Pantang Hospital in the Adentan Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
The items included 8 bags of rice (50kg), 5 cartons of soya milk, 3 large gallons of frytol cooking oil, 3 bags of Sugar (50kg), 10 packs of Detol, 4 packs of toilet roll, 2 boxes of key soap bars, 30 bags of sachet water and 1 gallon of Liquid soap among others.
Presenting the items to the hospital, the leader of the group Kwabena Boye Adjekumhene, a Lawyer, told management of the hospital that, it is a cardinal principle of every VANDAL and particularly members of the Sons of Bacchus group to continue to support the needy and share joyous moments with those who are not so privileged in society.
“When you go through the great Commonwealth Hall of the University of Ghana you are imbued with certain values that always prompts you to consider the needs of others in addition to upholding truth in society”, Kwabena Boye espoused.
Receiving the items on behalf of the management of the Pantang Mental Hospital, Mr. Seth Boakye, a Senior Nursing Officer of the Pantang Hospital expressed deep and sincere gratitude to members of the Sons of Bacchus group and VANDALS in general and charged other well-meaning Ghanaians to emulate the attributes of the past students of Commonwealth Hall of the University of Ghana and extend a helping hand to the inmates of the psychiatric hospital.
In addition to the items, the VANDALS also spent several hours to engage in cleaning of all forms of the hospital’s surroundings.
The group desilted gutters swept the streets and even mowed the lawns of the hospital as they encouraged themselves with their popular “jama” songs which they call motivational or inspirational music, mostly composed by the VANDALS themselves.
The Management and Staff of the Hospital praised the VANDALS and urged them to continue to demonstrate their compassionate support to their fellow human beings as it is the best wish of God to see such gestures among mankind.
