Students must devote sufficient time to study and prepare for their exams and to avoid the tendency to cheat in examinations, Mr Addo Boateng, Vice Chairman of Nkawkaw Senior High School (KAWSEC) Old Students Association, has advised.
Mr Boateng, who was speaking at a homecoming programme at Nkawkaw in preparation for the 45th anniversary of the school, said, “KAWSEC was founded on the vision of hard work and not deceit, which only gives a short-term success.
The founding father of our school the Right Reverend Victor Buer Nartey Tokoli inculcated us honest and the can do spirit”.
Mr Boateng, who was deputising for the Chairman of the Association, Brigadier General Yeboah Murphy, asked the students to learn hard in order to be of service to the nation.
Mr Daniel Owusu-Koranteng , General Secretary of the Maritime and Dockworkers’ Union and an Executive Member of the Association, asked the students to acquire the values of patriotism, hard work and honesty in addition to the acquisition of technical knowledge, adding, “the labour market has become very competitive and you would need the right attitudes to add up to the technical knowledge and skills to achieve excellence”.
Mrs Stella Agyenim-Boateng , a Director of Human Resource of Vodafone, Ghana and the General Secretary of the Association, encouraged the students to use their school days to build the foundations for their careers in the future.
She asked, especially the ladies, to avoid behaviours that would prevent them from developing themselves into useful citizens.
The Association presented 50 bags of cement towards the construction of a sickbay/clinic for the school, which it has pledged to fund.
The Assistant Headmaster (Administration) of the School, Mr Patrick Yeboah Agyekum, who received the cement and other items, thanked the Old Students for the love they have been showing towards their alma-mater.
The about 200 members of the Association, who patronised the programme, interacted with the students. Activities of the homecoming included a football match between the Old Students and the current students, counselling and mentoring sessions and a clean-up exercise among other things.
