A Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana (UG) Dr Isaac Owusu Mensah has kicked against any intended move by the Former Minister of Communications in the erstwhile Mahama administration Dr Omane Boamah to contest the presidency in 2020.
Shooting down any unforeseen plan by Dr Omane Boamah on Abusua FM’s Abusua Nkommo hosted by Kwame Adinkra, he said the former is not ripped politically to contest the highest office of the country on the ticket of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Dr Owusu Mensah admonished the former Communications Minister to plan of contesting and becoming the country’s President in the future.
He remarked that the former Minister of Local Government Samuel Ofosu Ampofo will be the best candidate to lead the NDC in 2020.
‘If I look at the list and calibre of people in the NDC, people who have experience and public trust in NDC, Ofosu Ampofo should be one of the crucial candidate for them.
I don’t want to comment so much on Omane Boamah because I don’t think he is qualified. I am not talking about age, but intellectually he is not qualified to be a President of Ghana.
There are so many candidates in line who they can look at their advantages and disadvantages, but Omane Boamah has not gotten to that level,’ he pointed out.
He further advised the former President John Dramani Mahama not to be pushed by his party supporters to contest the 2020 presidential elections, prophesising doom that he will lose if he makes attempt.
The Political Science Lecturer argued that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) will campaign against him on the basis of teachers and nurses allowances cancellation, reintroduction of taxes on import duties and Kayayeis.
He said there is no way the NDC and the former President would be able to convince Ghanaians that these allowances and taxes will be abolished.
‘The campaign will be very easier for the NPP to use against him, Mahama will be beaten more than he was in 2016, it will be very difficult for him to win the elections, Mahama had access to State resources which NPP didn’t have but have now. Mahama’s winning or losing 2020 elections will also depend on how the NPP will conduct themselves from now to 2020, the way NPP has started with the free SHS, one million –one constituency will be very difficult for NDC to win,’ he said.
He said it will be difficult for Mr Mahama to win the elections if Dr Mahamudu Bawumia contests in 2020 saying the Northern factor will be null and void.
