Techiman (B/A), March 23, GNA - Oseadeeyo Akumfi-Ameyaw, Omanhene of Techiman Traditional Area in Brong Ahafo, has inaugurated an 86 million cedis overhead bridge over the Atweredaa stream in Techiman. Mr Addai Simons, Member of Parliament for Techiman South, funded the project out of his share of the MPs Common Fund and was supervised by Techiman Municipal Assembly.
Oseadeeyo Akumfi-Ameyaw appealed to the people to avoid activities that could lead to the collapse of the bridge. He said the traditional council would form a sanitation task force to check indiscriminate dumping of waste material and pollution of the Tano, Atweredaa, Afiaso and Bosomasour water bodies, warning that culprits would be made to face the full rigours of the law. Oseadeeyo Akumfi-Ameyaw urged the MP to fight for more projects that would help to raise the image and standard of living of the people.
Mr Simons said the construction of the bridge was in response to an appeal made by the people during the last electioneering campaign. He promised to ensure a fair distribution of his share of the common fund towards the development of the constituency and advised the people to avoid petty squabbles. Mr Kwabena Owusu-Agyemang, Brong Ahafo Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) commended the contractor for the good work done.
Mr Philip Kyeremeh, Works Manager of Nationwide Electrical, the contractors, said the bridge could last for about 40 years if the people used it properly. He cautioned against the riding of bicycles, motorbikes, pushing of trucks and wheelbarrows on the bridge s well as the posting of handbills to mar the beauty of the bridge.
