Omanhene of Prang granted bail

Sunyani, Nov 26, GNA - Nana Kwadwo Nyarko III, Omanhene of Prang Traditional Area and President of Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, was on Tuesday granted a 100 million cedis police bail with two sureties to justify for his alleged involved in the disturbances at Prang at the weekend.

Mr Alexander Mensah, Regional Crime Officer, told the Ghana News Agency that the police granted the chief bail after he had given a statement to the police in connection with the disturbances as ordered by the Regional Security Council (REGSEC).

A REGSEC meeting on Tuesday asked the Omanhene to give a statement to the police, considering his alleged involvement in the action by his people over the non-inclusion of the area in the 19 new districts as published in the media.

Investigations are on-going to ascertain the extent of Nana Nyarko's involvement and he is to report at the regional police headquarters again on December 8, Mr Mensah said.

The people of Prang went on the rampage at the weekend during which they blocked the highway linking Atebubu with Yeji and Abease with Prang in protest against the selection of Yeji as capital of the newly created Pru District.

They vandalized the Prang police station and burnt documents, as well as two security vehicles and assaulted police personnel at Prang and a reinforcement from Atebubu sent there to maintain law and order.
