Omanhene proposes levy for University

Nkoranza (B/A), May 5, GNA - Okatakyie Agyeman Kudom IV, Omanhene of Nkoranza Traditional Area, has petitioned the four district assemblies in the area to approve of his proposed levy on all adult citizens in support of the Anglican University College of Technology to be established at Nkoranza by September this year. His petition was contained in a letter read for him at the first meeting of the Nkoranza South District Assembly at Nkoranza. Okatakyie Agyeman Kudom said he had decided that every adult male adult would pay GHC 2.00 every year and female adult GHC 1.00 towards the project.

The Nkoranza Traditional Area covers Kintampo North and Kintampo South and Nkoranza North and Nkoranza South District assemblies. Okatakyie Agyeman Kudom, who is President of Brong-Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, has released four square miles of land along the Nkoranza/Kintampo highway for the construction of accommodation and other facilities for the university. Mr. James Kwabena Appiah-Awuah, Nkoranza South District Chief Executive, urged the assembly members to educate and encourage the people to pay their taxes to enable the assembly generate enough resources for development.

He appealed to the members to bury their political differences and forge ahead in unity towards the development of the district. Mr. Kofi Busia, Presiding Member, said the assembly would reconstitute the executives and the various sub-committees of the assembly following the creation of the Nkoranza North District Assembly.
