This year’s District Assembly and Unit Committee Elections has recorded massive low turnouts despite vigorous campaigns from aspirants.
Various polling stations did not have half of voters trooping in to vote for their desired Assembly Members upon Ghanaweb’s visit to constituencies like Korle Klottey Municipality, La dadekotopon as well as surrounding districts.
In an interview with Presiding officers and aspirants, they blamed the situation on the lack of interest by citizens.
Ghanaians are expected to elect their Assembly Members and Unit Committee members across the country today, December 17, 2019.
This will happen simultaneously across the country with 57,030 candidates contesting this year’s elections.
The exercise will began from 7am and end at 5pm.
The Electoral Commission says it has already deployed some 58,000 biometric verification devices, 159,000 trained electoral officers as well as the voter registers for all polling stations across the country for the elections.
