Operator of boat involved in Sene River tragedy arrested

Kwame Danso (B/A), Sept. 11, GNA - Amissah Salifu, Operator of the boat that was involved in the tragic accident on the Sene River at Alozo Village in Sene District of Brong Ahafo Region, has been arrested and placed in police custody at Atebubu.

Deputy Superintendent of Police John Adusei, Atebubu-Amanten District Police Commander, who confirmed the story to the Ghana News Agency at Kwame Danso at the weekend, said Amissah would assist the Police in investigations into the accident.

The disaster occurred on Tuesday at 1930 hours when traders and other passengers including children on the boat were returning to Tato, located along the Sene River, from the market at Abotoase near the Volta Lake in the Volta Region.

Twenty-three people whose ages range between six months and 65 years have been confirmed dead in the accident and as at Saturday, 21 bodies of six adults and 14 children had been retrieved.
