Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the Vice Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), donated an amount of GH¢50,000 to the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Cancer Foundation in Accra on September 11, 2024.

This donation was in response to the Foundation's ongoing campaign to raise funds to support cancer treatment for teachers and their family members.

According to the GNAT Cancer Foundation, cancer cases among teachers and their families are on the rise, and the high cost of treatment is often unaffordable for many members.

The Foundation aims to raise funds to assist with these expenses.

While presenting a banker’s draft to the Foundation's board at their offices in Accra, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang commended GNAT for establishing the cancer foundation to support its members' treatment.

She noted that cancer treatment is very expensive and emphasized her commitment to raising awareness and encouraging public support for the Foundation's efforts.

“I want to appeal to the public that a fund like this has been set up.

It doesn’t matter how big or small [the contribution] is, and I am also appealing to all unions to come on board.

Regardless of the profession you follow, you would have gone through school, and I urge all to show empathy and support this initiative,” she stated.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang expressed hope that the fund would grow into a national initiative capable of helping many people, regardless of their profession.

She also urged the Foundation's leadership to promote preventive care as part of its programmes.

Christian Yaw Adinkra, the chairman of the GNAT Cancer Foundation's fundraising committee, thanked Prof. Opoku-Agyemang for her generous donation and encouraged others to follow her example.

Additionally, the Member of Parliament for Adentan, Mohammed Adamu Ramadan, made a personal donation at the same event.
