“Opportunistic” politicians not learning from mistakes – Obed Asamoah

Ghana’s longest serving minister, Dr Obed Asamoah has said the country appears not to be developing the way it should because politicians have failed to learn from their mistakes.

According to him, most politicians are prepared to sacrifice principles and values for their parochial interest.

Speaking to Starr News on the sidelines of the launch of his book titled: “The political history of Ghana; the experience of a non-conformist”, the former attorney general said most Ghanaian leaders are only interested in their own welfare.

“Too many of us like to do things just to advance our interest.

“And therefore we are prepared to sacrifice principles or values if we can get along. You see something is wrong, you don’t say because you are afraid when you say it; it may jeopardize your position,” he stated.

The former Chair of the ruling NDC noted that some politicians, he believes, will learn but others will "really never" learn.

“Some will learn but I believe that some will really never learn. I believe that most of us are really just opportunistic,” he said.
