An aspiring General Secretary of the NPP, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has debunked the notion that dissenting views in the party will break its foundation.
"NPP has a tradition, and though there are disagreements, it is not fundamental enough to rock the very foundation of the party that we are all members of today," he said.
Speaking to the media in Accra, Mr. Buaben expressed confidence that the present dissenting views in the party would be harnessed to make it stronger.
YB as Mr. Yaw Buaben Asamoa is affectionately called, was however quick to admonish members and supporters of the party to be circumspect in their utterances especially in the media.
“There is too much noise, and we must learn to keep issues indoors," he said.
Mr. Buaben Asamoa stressed that with a change in leadership, these sentiments can be put to bed. Because when issues are discussed publicly, it affects the credibility of the Party.
According to YB, "we don't have to put our disagreements in public. As a leader, you do not engage in public discourse on an issue facing the party. But once it gets decided behind closed doors, you accept it as the collective decision of the Party and put it into effect."
"What we need is Leadership. Leadership that can ensure that the internal mechanism that have developed over time have the capacity to resolve any differences that occur within the party."
He explained that the NPP must now purge itself and introduce new leadership.
‘It will produce big results. We will have a much stronger NPP than it was before; it will make it an NPP that is more strongly bound up with the masses, more capable of leading it to victory amidst a mass of difficulties and dangers that the current ruling party will bring.’
YB, who is said to have developed a mathematical matrix of what constitutes unity (Unity = Self Interest + Compromise + Commitment to Victory) congratulated the National Council of the Party on its decision to “centralize” the Party’s Annual National Delegates Conference, saying “it is reflective of the concerns and aspirations of the mass membership and support base of the NPP”.
According to YB, the National Council prevented what he will describe as “the desecration of the Party’s constitution, through decentralization.”
”The decision by the National Council to address the issue of funding a centralized National Annual Delegates Conference and other related issues, is indicative of how close they are with the Party’s mass base and how determined they are to guide the Party through a successful congress. ”
