A private legal practitioner has jumped to the defence of Torgbui Ashui Nyagasi V, the judge who has come under attack for declaring his support for President Akufo-Addo.

The state-owned Daily Graphic newspaper, had quoted him as calling on Ghanaians to give President Akufo-Addo, another term to implement his vision for the country.

“We wish to congratulate you for the excellent manner you are governing this dear country of ours, it is our hope that with your vision and the gains made in your first term, Ghanaians may consider giving you another four years,” he stated.

Torgbui Nyagasi, who made the call at a durbar of chiefs and people of Nyagbo to welcome the President, as part of his three-day tour of the Volta and Oti regions, also implored the President to ensure that the forthcoming elections on December 7, 2020, were peaceful.

Known in judicial circles as Justice Clemence Honyenuga), the judge sitting on the case between the state, on the one hand; and the former CEO of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr Stephen Opuni and businessman Seidu Agongo, has been slammed for his action.

But reacting to the attacks, lawyer Ampaw said the judge did no wrong hence Ghanaians should give him a break.

According to him, it is naturally right for a traditional leader to appeal to a president for developmental projects, hence the judge should not be slammed.

He quizzed what Ghanaians would have said if he had slammed the president.

Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5fm he said: ”You see the hypocrisy. The way we politicise everything is too bad. We should look at the context when people do something and stop personalising issues all the time,” he added.
