The Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Maafo has expressed his unhappiness with the level of corruption in Ghana’s public sector.

According to him, corruption is choking the public sector, which has in turn taken a toll on the country’s resources.

He said there are a lot of leakages in the system, pointing to the harbour as one of such places where corruption is highly prevalent.

“…people who are supposed to pay 10 are paying 2,” he said, adding that people continue to short-change the national coffers.

Citing an example, Mr. Maafo said a project that is executed by the private sector at say GH¢ 1 million would be executed by a public institution at a cost of GH¢ 1.5 million.

He made the statement during an engagement with some Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) on Friday, September 6, 2019.

The programme was organised by the Ghana Beyond Aid Committee, to discuss how best to rid the public sector of untoward acts.

The Senior Minister said, there is the need for an attitudinal change among Ghanaians if the country is to develop.

According to him, the fight against corruption can be won if citizens show the spirit of volunteerism and patriotism.
