Osafo-Maafo kicks off second Northern Region campaign

Accra, Nov. 19, GNA - Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo, one of presidential aspirants contesting next month's New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries, on Monday began a second campaign tour of the Northern Region to canvass for votes.

The aim of the tour is also to encourage delegates to vote for "a leader who can help the party to attract floating voters to vote for the NPP" during the 2008 elections.

Mr Osafo-Maafo told the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Monday that the success of the NPP in the 2008 elections would depend on floating voters.

"Floating voters are voters who are not directly attached to one particular party but have the national interest at heart. The floating voters are interested in getting a candidate who will ensure development."

Mr Osafo-Maafo, who is also the Member of Parliament for Akim Oda, said there was evidence that he was a performer and someone who would ensure development.

"The NPP needs candidate who can best continue with the good works of the Kufuor-led administration and delegates are interested in voting for a person who they can identify with," he said. Touting his leadership skills, Mr Osafo-Maafo said he was someone with quality management skills, a focused vision and one who inspired many in the party when in opposition and in government. The tour, he said, would take him through Bole, Sawla and Damongo to Tamale where he would hold a grand rally on Wednesday. Mr Osafo-Maafo said he would tour all 26 constituencies in the region and continue to the Upper East and Upper West Regions subsequently.
