Finance Minister Yaw Osafo Maafo has been explaining conditions that made Ghana an eligible recipient of a billion dollar support programme from America.
The 1 billion dollar support programme is being made available under the Millennium Challenge Account facility for 16 countries including Ghana.
The US state department says the beneficiary countries were chosen on account of the effectiveness of their governments, their attractive programmes for foreign investors and projects initiated to satisfy their people?s basic health and education needs.
Although the Finance Minster says he?s uncertain how much of the 1 billion dollars will come to Ghana, he told a press conference that a number of projects will be presented for requisite support.
The MCA used such renowned bodies like the IMF, World Bank, NGO?s and other to gather information on Ghana. We supplied interest rates, GDP which they verified.
This is certainly going to provide Ghana with access to fund. We have a share of the 1 billion dollars but no one knows how much Ghana will get. The money will not be shared equally but on the strengths of projects each country presents so the onus is on us to select projects that will generate growth in the economy.
