One of the two police officers being investigated for alleged theft while on duty on the Osagyefo Power Badge has committed suicide.
The officer, Sgt Fuseini Mohamuda with badge no. 37400 “shot himself dead with an AK47,” on Saturday at about 8:30 am, according to a Police report.
That was after he sent CPL Iddrisu Kafando Muntari with badge no. 551484L, whom he was on duty with to buy him a shaving blade, the report said.
Sgt Mohamuda left a note denying his involvement in the theft saying: “I cannot take this disgrace.” Sgt Mohamuda’s remain has since been transported to the Police Hospital Morgue in Accra for preservation and autopsy.
The theft
Sgt Mohamuda was on duty on the Osagyefo Power Badge enclave at Effasu, near Half Assini in the Western Region. He was under investigation in a case of theft with a colleague and four other civilian accomplices.
The four are; Usif Musah, Usif Sulley, Abdulai Issah and Joseph Baidoo.
Police upon intelligence, intercepted a Benz Cargo truck with registration number NR 991 P which was allegedly used for the operation, with the four occupants on board.
A search conducted in the truck retrieved six burner gas stove, four burner electric stove, three double door fridges and five pieces of air conditioners.
Other items retrieved include; two double bed mattresses, one sewing machine, quantity of electrical cables, two hacksaw blades, one drilling machine, four water holes and two main electric switches.
