The Head of Policy and Evaluation at the office of the President, Dr. Tony Aidoo has accused the overseer of the International Central Gospel Church, Pastor Mensah Otabil of elevating himself above the realm of humanity with his pronouncements.
In an interview on Citi Fm, Dr. Aidoo made reference to a recent preaching by the man of God in which he made some distinctions between Theocracy and Democracy saying, "In God's world, we live in a theocracy where it is the will of God that rules. But in this world, we live under democracy where man rules."
Dr Otabil, who was absent from a special breakfast meeting organised for the nation's Christian leaders at the castle on Wednesday, has been criticized by various groups and political figures for his pronouncements concerning the free SHS policy of the New Patriotic Party.
He has had to call on the President of the Republic to call members of the ruling party to order following what said were attempts to misrepresent his sermons for political gain.
However, in the opinion of Dr. Tony Aidoo, it was only logical that Pastor Mensah Otabil will absent himself from yesterday’s breakfast devotion considering his believes.
"He is the ordained, he is the one to whom God has opened his eyes. To him theocracy is the most important. Democracy doesn't matter because democracy relates to we, living mortals. Theocracy in the Kingdom of God and who are we to dispute with the ones so anointed. We have to take it like that. Therefore he could not bring himself to come down to earth and attend such a ceremony because it has to do with democracy and not theocracy."
"He [Dr. Otabil] made a distinction between theocracy and democracy and he said democracy belongs to human beings for the purpose of electing a President and theocracy belongs to God and it is God who appoints kings. Obviously Pastor Mensah Otabil has elevated himself into a pantheon far beyond we living mortals."
