Pastor Mensa Otabil popped champagne after hearing collapse of Capital bank, according to the minority in Parliament.
Pastor Otabil is a subject of criticisms from a section of the public who continue to question his relevance on the board, and what advice he gave to the board to get them to sink the business.
Together with UT Bank, their licenses were withdrawn by the Bank of Ghana after declaring them bankrupt and unable to run on their own. Their remaining assets have so far been taken over by Ghana Commercial Bank and the accounts of top management now a subject of investigations.
Employees are currently on a six month probation after which a final decision will be taken as to who stays and who goes.
Pastor Otabil, who has endured criticisms from a section of the public for his alleged role in the collapse, responded by saying most of those who are “insulting” him look like “Insult” themselves. He said there are people who are below life’s ladder and are excited to see others come to their level, if that will make them happy.
But NDC MP for Ho Central Benjamin Kpodo said contrary to claims by Pastor Otabil he was affected by the bank’s collapse, he said that could not be true. He said Pastor Otabil is “happy” the bank collapsed and care less about the pain customers are going through.
“When people are losing money then you are happy,” he said. “Otabil must apologize to people.”
