For many members of the public, not much is known about the family of the Overlord of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
However, at an event held at the Manhyia Palace, the King shared a story about his two brothers, who were talented footballers and played for different school teams during their senior high school days.
According to the Asantehene, one of his elder brothers played for Asanteman Senior High School, while the other played for Opoku Ware School.
In a video shared on the social media platform TikTok, the King recounted what happened during matches when the two brothers faced off on the pitch. Interestingly, they played in positions that often brought them into direct competition during the game.
"When Asanteman Senior High School played against Opoku Ware School, my older brother, the one right before me [Nana Kwasi], played for Asanteman SHS in the number 7 position. Meanwhile, our brother Boakye Ansah was playing for Opoku Ware School in the number 11 position. But the students didn’t know they were brothers," he explained.
"During the match, if one of them touched the ball first, the other would refrain from tackling him. It was only later that the students found out they were siblings."
The Asantehene described Asanteman SHS as an excellent institution that has produced many successful individuals.
He emphasized that the school was established by Nananom (the traditional leaders) to provide quality education and training to the children of Asanteman, helping them become responsible adults in the future.
