The Abuakwa North Constituency Office of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Akyem Kukurantumi has asserted that the Member of Parliament for the area, Gifty Twum-Ampofo, has been actively contributing to the constituency's development, is visible everywhere, and spends almost every weekend with them.

Constituency Communications Director for the party, Stephen Osei-Wusu's statement was in response to an alleged outcry by the Akyem Tafohene, Daasebre Adusei Peasah IV, that the area was in dire need of developmental assistance when the running mate of John Dramani Mahama, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, paid a visit to the Awansa Palace, Akyem Old Tafo, on June 26, 2024.

According to him, some media reports stated that Daasebre Adusei Peasah IV had appealed to Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang for development assistance, citing poor roads and minimal progress in the area, and emphasizing the MP’s supposed lack of visibility in the constituency.

But, Stephen Osei-Wusu, addressing journalists, expressed shock that such a comment came from the traditional ruler. He expressed doubts that the chief made the statement, suggesting that the tape may have been doctored by opposition members to “score points and to cover the good achievements and track record” of their “hardworking, result-driven” MP.

Osei-Wusu further noted that all of these developments were communicated to Daasebre Adusei Peasah IV and other traditional leaders, adding that Akyem Tafo sometimes participates in most of the developmental activities carried out by the MP, Gifty Twum-Ampofo.

"Whenever Honourable Gifty Twum-Ampofo undertakes a project, traditional leaders, including Daasebre Adusei Peasah IV, are informed and invited. He often accompanies her to site handovers, project inspections, and commissioning ceremonies," Mr. Osei-Wusu stated at a press conference on Monday, July 1.

“In all honesty, I personally did not hear him say those things. We all know that in Ghana, when a prominent person makes a statement, it is usually taken out of context to fit an agenda. But you do your own investigation, you realize it’s not what he said or meant.”

“Nana and Gifty have an admirable cordial relationship,” he added. Stephen Osei-Wusu highlighted some of the significant projects initiated by Gifty Twum-Ampofo under the Nana Akufo-Addo-led NPP administration.

These projects, he stated, include educational infrastructure, health facilities, agricultural initiatives, women's employment opportunities, transportation logistics, road construction, and various social activities.

He, however, advised the public to be circumspect in their dealings, especially because it is an election year.
