The Member of Parliament for Twifo Atti Morkwa in the Central Region, David T. Vondee, has urged members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to be cautious with their expectations as the party prepares for governance.
He emphasised the need for a measured approach in fulfilling campaign promises and managing public expectations.
“All members of the NDC, of which I am a part, must ensure that our expectations regarding appointments are measured,” he stated in an interview on Adom TV on December 30, 2024.
He reminded party members of the number of ministers the president-elect had promised to work with, saying, “It must be properly measured because John Mahama said he would use 16 ministers. That is the rope we have already tied around our necks.”
Vondee also referenced an important warning once issued by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) about the dynamics of political power and public dissatisfaction.
According to Vondee, Otumfuo had previously cautioned the NPP that Ghanaians voted against John Mahama out of “hunger and anger,” and the NPP could suffer the same fate if they failed to govern well.
True to this prophecy, Ghanaians' frustration and dissatisfaction were evident in the 2024 elections, where dissatisfaction with the NPP translated into massive support for the NDC.
“Otumfuo Osei Tutu once advised the NPP, saying that people voted against John Mahama out of anger and hunger. He warned that if you don’t govern well when you get into power, they will vote against you out of anger and hunger. I am offering the same advice to the NDC,” Vondee stated.
However, he cautioned the NDC against getting carried away by the excitement of victory, saying, “The elections were NPP against Ghanaians, and they voted. Ghanaians voted massively for us due to anger and hunger. So, we have to be vigilant, and we will be vigilant too.”
