A Deputy Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Maame Yaa Aboagye, has cautioned parliamentary candidates and their supporters to conduct their campaign devoid of insult, bickering and personality attacks.

In the wake of the party’s parliamentary primaries slated for June 20, 2020, she explained that the party had an image to protect ahead of the 2020 elections, hence the need to be mindful of their utterances.

Maame Aboagye admonished supporters and party faithful not to use derogatory words against opponents as they campaign for their favourite candidate and stressed that the primaries was a family contest and should not be done in a ‘Do or Die’ manner to create disaffection among members.

She also implored them not to treat their opponents as enemies since their common enemy was the National Democratic Congress (NDC) because in political dispensation they should “agree to disagree”.

“In politics, we agree to disagree, we all cannot support and assist one candidate, that is why it is called democracy and NPP is good at that, let us all try hard to protect our party’s image because the fact that somebody does not agree with you does not make him or her your enemy.

“Our family is a big one, thus every NPP member should bear in mind whoever emerges victorious in the primaries will represent the party in December 2020 general election, we should be mindful of our choice of words as we campaign for our favourite candidates,” Maame Aboagye intimated and appealed to well-wishers, supporters and contestants to accept and throw their weight behind any candidate who emerged as winner during the primaries.

The NPP is expected to hold its parliamentary primaries on June 20, 2020 to be held at electoral areas and not previous format whereby all delegates will meet to vote aimed at preventing the congregation of many people at one place to curb the spread of coronavirus(COVID-19) pandemic.

The National Council of NPP met on Wednesday to discuss details of primaries and present at the meeting were President Nana Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr Muhammadu Bawumia, Chairman of NPP, Freddie Blay and General Secretary of NPP, John Boadu among other executives.

Apart from the primaries, the National Council also discussed whether or not to declare President Akufo-Addo as party’s flag bearer by popular acclamation.
