More than 600 Students of Ahmadiyya Girls Senior High School (Amass Girls) in Asokore in the Sekyere East District of Ashanti Region have displaced after heavy downpour ripped-off the school dormitory.
The students according to report are currently stranded while others on Tuesday night were forced to sleep in classrooms and with their friends who are day students
Properties and personal properties of the students and the school worth several thousands of Ghana cedis have been destroyed though no casualty recorded.
Hajia Ayesha Nyantakyiwaa Boakye Headmistress of the school who confirmed the devastation caused by the heavy downpour to Kwame Adinkra on Kumasi-based Pure FM disclosed that no injuries have been recorded indicating that all students are safe.
According to her, authorities of the school and the Sekyere East Assembly officials will meet to find a temporal solution to the problem caused by the downpour.
In the interim, she is appealing to stakeholders to come to their aid especially when there are indications of more rains in the coming days.
Meanwhile over 200 residents at Sekyere East District have been rendered homeless after the downpour.
Officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have confirmed the situation to MyNewsGh.com and revealed that they are currently on ground assessing the extent of damage caused to both public and private property.
