The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has announced that more than six private investors have shown interest in partnering with the government to construct and operationalize the Keta Port in the Volta Region.

Michael Luguje, the Director-General of GPHA, stated that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will soon issue an environmental and social impact assessment report.

This report will be presented to the investors as a critical part of the port's development process.

In October 2018, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo signed an Executive Instrument (EI) officially designating Keta as the location for the Port of Keta, to be managed by the GPHA.

However, residents of Keta have expressed frustrations over the government's delay in advancing the port's construction.

In a recent media interview, Michael Luguje revealed that while the government has yet to receive formal proposals from the interested investors, there have been ongoing engagements with potential partners.

“While we await the environmental and social impact assessment, we have already begun discussions with potential investors. So far, over six companies, both local and international, have expressed interest in partnering with the government to develop the port.

“However, these investors require the environmental and social impact assessment report to inform and refine the proposals they will submit.

“We hope that in the next month or two, once we receive the EPA's report, we can present it to these investors. They will then review it and work towards submitting more concrete proposals on the type of partnership they wish to establish with us to build and operate the Port of Keta," citinewsroom.com quoted him as having said.
