The Pan African Writers’ Association (PAWA) has congratulated African writers and Writers of African descent for their steadfastness to unite Africans and hasten its development.

The Association further urged the writers to continue the task of wielding literature as a weapon for the growth of the Continent.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Steering Committee of PAWA, Nana Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng, on the Commemoration of the 25th International African Writers’ Day, the writers were urged to redouble their efforts to be at the forefront of the struggle for African unity.

“African writers must redouble their efforts to be in the forefront of the struggle for African Unity and common purpose in addition to fighting for peace, enhanced and inclusive governance, human rights and social justice for Africans everywhere,” it said.

It admonished the writers to uphold and act in accordance with the tenets and mission of the Association by strengthening the culture and economic bonds between the people based on their diverse but rich cultural, political and economic heritage.

The International African Writers’ Day, which is set aside by the African Union to honour all African Writers and Writers of African descent, also marks the founding of PAWA.
