PC Appiah-Ofori can't come here - Chief

The Paramount Chief of Gomoa Nyame Bekyere in the Central Region, Nana Okofuo Gyasi Yeyii Oman-Ano ll has issued an edict barring NPP MP for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa, Hon. P.C Appiah-Ofori, from canvassing for votes in the area following his refusal to render an apology to Central Regional Chiefs for comments he passed which they deem as derogatory to the chieftaincy institution.

The controversial MP was said to have gone bananas in a radio interview on Tuesday, Sept 7th, when in a fit of rage he described the Omanhene of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Kwesi Atta 11, as “Ohene Gyengyan”, a fante word which literally means “useless” or “worthless”, for failing to acknowledge the presence of Nana Akufo-Addo. He subsequently refused to render any apology to the Omanhene in another interview on PeaceFM.

Nana Okofuo Oman-Ano ll who was speaking in an interview with PeaceFM News stated “…P.C. Ofori should understand that we want peace in this country….How does he expect the youth to learn from the elderly if he behaves in this manner…He must salt his speech and speak like someone who has been voted for to represent a constituency in the country. Because, even if the chief did something bad or erred… does a politician have to descend on him like a pack of cards?…he (Chief) doesn’t deserve such insults. Can he dare insult the chief in his hometown?” he quizzed.

The Gomoa Nyame Bekyere Chief stressed that he believes Hon. Appiah-Ofori’s conscience will even not permit him to approach any chief in the Central Region with the request to campaign in any of the towns following his insulting behaviour.

He cautioned the 2012 NPP Presidential Candidate, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, to be mindful of some characters in his campaign team, and if possible, oust him (Appiah-Ofori) from the team, since in his estimation; personalities like the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa MP will eventually humiliate him.

“…if this was a foreign country, this man should have been expelled from Nana Akufo-Addo’s team…if that is not done, he will debase him (Akufo-Addo)," he said.

But in a rather sharp reply, the out-spoken NPP MP laughed off the pronouncement by the chief that he is de-barred from campaigning in the Central region pointing out that the supreme law of the land guarantees him the right to campaign in any part of the country.

“Anyone who denigrates Nana Akufo-Addo has equally insulted the NPP party, and nobody will them to get away with it…Which part of the constitutional provision states that one cannot campaign in the Central region?...he should spell it out to me…following the backlash by some people in Cape Coast at the treatment meted out to Nana Addo by the Oguaa Omanhene, I can confidently say that I’m a hero in the area…

“…no-one can bar me from campaigning in the area…when the time comes I’ll campaign in the area…I’m not bothered by their threats, I just don’t care,” he retorted.
