PENSION PAYMENTS TO BE DECENTRALISED

The Head of the Civil Service, Dr.. Robert Dodoo, has announced that as from November this year the processing and payment of retiring benefits for Civil and Public Servants will be decentralised. This is in line with the consensus expressed by various groups, including the Civil Servants Association in the pension scheme. The Regional and District Offices of the Controller and Accountant General's Department have been directed to effect the payments of pension claims. Dr.. Dodoo said this at the last of a series of workshops on Financial Management Training in Accra on 20th October. The three-day workshop aims at ensuring the effective and efficient management of government finances. It is under the theme: "Compliance with the Financial Laws of Ghana". It will further enlighten participants on topics such as "Financial Administration". "Functions and Responsibilities", "Accounting reporting", "Budget Implementation and Payroll processing". Dr.. Dodoo said the government has instituted effective measures to eliminate waste. He also emphasised the need to comply with the President's directive that Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA's) should transfer all their accounts with Commercial Banks to Bank of Ghana. He further charged the participants to take interest in the proper collecting of revenues and also ensure that contractors, employees and suppliers pay their taxes. The Deputy Auditor-General, Madam Felicia Mensah advised the participants on the need to prepare annual accounts and submit them to the Controller and Accountant General Department on schedule. End
