The People?s National Convention (PNC) has scheduled its national delegate?s congress for the Trade Fair Centre, La, in Accra on May 27 and 28, 2004 to elect its Flagbearer and national officers.
The congress originally planned for March 27, 2004 was postponed to enable the party to participate more effectively in the voter?s registration exercise.
Mr. Gabriel Pwamang, general secretary of the PNC, who disclosed this in an interview, said the decision was taken at a meeting of the leadership of the party in Accra on Saturday. He said the party also decided to launch its presidential campaign in Accra in May 29, 2004 to coincide with the 12 anniversary of the founding of the party.
Mr. Pwamang said the new sensation addition to the race for national leadership was Mr. John Ndebugre, a leading member of the party who has decided to contest the position of chairman of the party. He said the Flagbearer race was still between Dr. Edward Mahama, leader of the party and Mr. Kofi Wayo, who defected last year from the New Patriotic Party. Other contesting of position of chairman of the party are Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan and Dr. Osei Bonsu.
Mr. Pwamang said the congress will be attended by live delegates from the regional branches all members of the national executive of committee as well as observe from the constituencies. He said the delegates will arrive on May 27 and conduct the main business of electing a Flagbearer and national officers on May 28, 2004.
