The General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, said items donated by China to fight COVID-19 in Ghana must be scrutinized and investigated.

According to him, he agrees with a section of the public who are calling for thorough investigations into the items.

“We should check all of them; we will collect them but we will also make sure it’s suitable to be used. Fighting coronavirus has political social and diplomatic implications and we need to strategize and be careful in our measures. As we collect those gifts we must make sure that they meet the standard,” he averred.

The Chinese government donated tens of thousands of medical supplies, test kits and Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to some 18 African countries to help combat the dreadful coronavirus.

With Accra being the center of distribution to the other 17 other African countries, the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Shi Ting Wang was at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on Monday to welcome the items.

Mr. Wang said the donation is China’s way of demonstrating its commitment to the partnership with Africa.

He noted that the gesture was to also support the numerous structural health challenges in most African countries.
