Ashanti regional branch of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has held a ceremony to popularly endorse its parliamentary aspirants in the Obuasi East and West constituencies in the Ashanti region for this year’s General Elections.
Mrs. Afia Ansaah and Mr. Frank Aboagye Danyansah received a unanimous YES each to the Electoral Commission (EC) official’s question of whether the members would like them to contest as their candidates come November 7, 2016 in Obuasi West and East respectively.
Huge applause and loud shouts in affirmation of their endorsement of the candidature of the duo made the EC’s official also endorse them to represent the party as its candidates.
The ceremony which drew diverse people from various areas of the Obuasi Municipality was one of the well-attended programmes of the party in recent times.
Earlier, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, Mr. Lawrence Appiah, in his opening address noted that the party has great plans for the Obuasi municipality but could only do that, when it wins power in the November 7 polls.
He reminded the people of Obuasi of Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom’s promise to build a gold refinery in the area if they vote for Mr. Frank Aboagye Danyansah as their Member of Parliament (MP) in November.
The regional chairman lamented several unpatriotic acts by both the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) during their tenures in government which negatively affected the Obuasi municipality.
And according to him, Ghanaians need a selfless and visionary leader like Dr. Nduom to put things right."
A vote for PPP, he noted, meant endorsing infrastructural development, employment and improvement of the economy.
He therefore, admonished the people of Obuasi not to hesitate at all in voting for the PPP in November.
Mr. Aboagye Danyansah after receiving popular acclamation from his party members re-affirmed his commitment in offering quality leadership, enhancing employment and development in the Obuasi East constituency if voted as MP for the area.
“Our country is at the threshold of a new era, an era that beckons for a new kind of leadership; a leadership that is uncontaminated by the prejudices of the past. A leadership committed to change, a leadership that reinvents government, to solve t everyday problems that confront the average Ghanaian,” Mr. Danyansah stated.
For her part, the party’s aspirant for the Obuasi West constituency, Mrs. Afia Ansaah, said the fact that mining, which used to employ numerous youth has collapsed, did not mean they should all starve.
She consequently promised to introduce domestic tourism within the Obuasi area since the place had several places that can pass for tourist sites.
“It is quite embarrassing to say you come from Obuasi knowing that the town has not benefitted at all from the gold which has been mined in the town for several years. But all is not lost because I am ready to bring to the people of Obuasi West quality leadership they have lacked in all these years,” she assured.
