The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) says there will be nothing new with the coming into force of the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s Act, which was given presidential assent on Tuesday.

According to the National Secretary of the party, Murtala Mohammed, the partiality of the Attorney General in doing the bidding of incumbent governments will be the same with the Special Prosecutor.

Mr Mohammed said the Office can only work in the supreme interest of justice if the Attorney General’s Department is separated from the Ministry of Justice.

The PPP National Secretary expressed these on 3FM’s Midday News on Tuesday.

He was assessing the one-year performance of the Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

He opined that the current government has no direction and that is showing with the decisions taken in 2017.

“If you have four years, one year is enough to give direction. There is no direction.”

He called the Bill, said to review corrupt acts of past and present public officers, “a trick”.

“The [Office of the] Special Prosecutor Bill is a trick.

“The same thing that happened to the Attorney General will happen to the Special Prosecutor’s Bill.”

He was of the firm conviction that the coming into force of the Bill “will amount to nothing”.

Mr Mohammed admonished the president to be careful lest “he is going to become a one-term president like [John] Mahama”.
