The Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU) has announced a suspension of its strike following a directive from the National Labour Commission (NLC) aimed at resolving a labor dispute involving public sector salary concerns.

This move comes after a mediation meeting between the PSWU, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), and the NLC.

In a statement issued on Friday, October 25, 2024, the PSWU confirmed that its members on the Single Spine Salary Structure would resume work on Monday, October 28, 2024.

The PSWU stressed that the decision to pause the strike is part of an effort to achieve a mutually beneficial resolution on outstanding issues with the government.

The union expressed optimism for constructive negotiations, underscoring their intent to support peaceful dialogue to address their concerns.

"We wish to inform you that per the directives of the National Labour Commission… the structure of the union met and have agreed to suspend the industrial action to allow for the negotiations… within the stipulated time given by the NLC,” the statement noted.

It continued, "In view of the above, we direct all our members subsisting on the Single Spine to report to work on Monday, October 28, 2024."

However, the union warned that it would resume industrial action if the ongoing negotiations fail to meet expectations, stating it would “take appropriate action” should the talks not yield the desired outcomes for their members.
