PTA builds 150 million-cedi staff bungalow for OPASS

Kukurantumi (E/R) March 13, GNA - A 150-million cedi two-unit staff bungalow built by the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) for the Ofori Panin Secondary School(OPASS) at Kukurantumi in the East Akim District in the Eastern Region was inaugurated on Saturday. The project was funded through a special levy of 50,000 cedis per parent.

The Board Chairman of the school, Mr Seth Asiedu Asante cut the tape to inaugurate the building, after the PTA chairman, Nana Amaniapong Boateng had handed over the keys to the Headmaster, Mr Kwaku Kyei-Brobbey.

Speaking at the ceremony, the PTA chairman said the association decided to embark on the construction of the staff bungalows to solve the accommodation problem facing the tutors living in the town and also to avoid the high cost of rent demanded by landlords.

He said the PTA was also constructing a four-unit junior staff bungalow estimated at 230 million cedis, out of which over 16 million cedis had so far been spent.

Nana Boateng, who is also the Nkosoahene of Kukurantumi appealed to parents to contribute generously to enable the association to complete the on-going projects and initiate new ones to uplift the image of the school.

He advised parents against giving huge sums of pocket money to their wards while coming to school.

The PTA chairman asked parents to instil discipline in their wards while on holidays and monitor their activities to supplement that of the school.

He stressed the need for cooperation between the PTA and the staff to enhance good quality teaching and learning.

The Headmaster, Mr Kyei-Brobbey expressed gratitude to the PTA for their immense contribution to the school and pledged that the facilities would be maintained to ensure that the tutors discharge their duties efficiently.
