Palm wine taper jailed for defiling Kindergarten girl

Cape Coast, Aug 22, GNA - A circuit court in Cape Coast, last Wednesday sentenced kweku Alex, a 30-year old palm wine taper, to 13 years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a six-year old Kindergarten girl and causing harm to her. He pleaded guilty to the charges.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Samuel Oduro Kwarteng, told the court that the convict and the victim and her parents lived in Assin Besease in the Central Region. He said that in January 2009, the victim endeavour to go to her sister, who had gone to farm.

DSP Kwarteng said that Alex, who pretended to assist the girl to go to the sister, dragged the victim into a nearby bush and forcibly had sex with her.

The Prosecution said that the girl who was bleeding as a result of the ordeal, wept and called for help and Alex hit her forehead with a stick and when she collapsed Alex run away. DSP Kwarteng said that the girl gained conscious and went home and narrated her incident to her mother. The Prosecution said the mother reported the case to the Police and a medical form was issued to the girl and she was admitted to the hospital for a week.

DSP Kwarteng said that Alex went into hiding for one-and-half years until August 9 this year when he resurfaced and he was apprehended. The Prosecution said Alex admitted defiling the girl but denied that he struck her with a stick.
