Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Lawson has described as inaccurate, account of former President Kufuor’s claim to have put up the Ho Polytechnic and Ho hospital as part of his achievements in the Volta region.
According to him, President Kufuor goofed for saying he built the Ho Polytechnic while in actual fact the PNDC/NDC government established the Polytechnic.
Ex-President Kufuor, who was speaking at his residence in Accra when the newly elected NPP MP for Abuakwa North, Gifty Twum Ampofo, paid a courtesy call on him, also drew attention to the fact his government constructed the Ho Polytechnic and roads from Nkonya through to Dambai.
He said he was very much disappointed when President Mahama and his NDC members accused him and the New Patriotic Party NPP for not embarking on any developmental projects in the Volta Region during their term of governance.
However, he accused the NDC of rather squandering money meant for the developing sectors of the Volta Region particularly with the Keta Sea Defense Project.
“They claim we did nothing in the Volta Region. Let’s start from Keta. The money they acquired for the sea defense wall, they squandered it. It was during my tenure that we constructed the wall.
“Ho Polytechnic was virtually built by us. Even the University of Ghana envies this school. Go to Nkonya through to Dambai. We constructed all those roads in the first term of the NPP.
“In three years, we were able to take Ghana from the IMF. Now we are back here again . . . during my tenure, Ghanaians abroad always wanted to come back home but this is no longer the case,” Ex- President Kufuor stated.
But George Lawson reacting to President Kufuor on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show said the former President is confused by the Panama saga involving his family, causing him to give inaccurate account of what he accomplished during his tenure.
“President Kufuor goofed big time for saying he built Ho Polytechnic; he only built infrastructure and it doesn’t mean he built the Polytechnic . . . maybe the 'Panama Papers' are haunting him that is why he is confused about the things he did in Volta region,” he jabbed.
Whiles admitting that President John Agyekum Kufuor actually did something of significant value in Volta Region as well as the other regions, he however pointed out he should be candid and accurate in his assessment.
“President Mahama didn’t say President Kufuor didn’t do anything in the Volta region, but if he wants to recount those, you must be accurate and candid...I will not take that away from him but the fact is, in recounting, he must recall properly,” he stressed.
