Paramount Chief of Adaklu appeals to Regional Minister

Accra, May 26, GNA - Togbe Gbogbi Atsa V, Paramount Chief of Adaklu Traditional Area on Thursday appealed to the Volta Regional Minister, Mr Kofi Dzamesi to set up a committee to investigate the siting of the Adaklu-Anyigbe District Capital at Kpetoe as directed by President John Agyekum Kufuor.

In a statement in Accra, the Chief asked the Minister to abide by President Kufuor's directives for the formation of an investigation committee instead of the reconciliation committee he had indicated he wanted to set up in an invitation letter he sent to him. Togbe Atsa V said as the decision of the Regional Minister was in contrast to that of the President, he would neither participate in the inauguration of the Reconciliation Committee scheduled to take place on May 27 at the Regional Coordinating Council at Ho nor be part of the belatedly proposed manoeuvre.

He said the proposed Reconciliation Committee would surely have different objectives and terms of reference from a factual Investigation Committee.

"The directives of the President supersede any other intended intervention on the issue at stake," said. He said the people of Adaklu, Agotime and Ziope had lived and worked together in harmony and peace for generations until the recent district capital anomaly, which had labelled the newly created District Assembly as controversial.

" This anomaly, in fact... needs to be urgently and thoroughly investigated. I am willing and ever ready to avail myself for such investigation, which I am sure will settle the dust and bring sanity to the three traditional areas," the statement said.
