Parents advised to help children unearth their potentials

Parents have been urged to nurture and grow the talents of children to effectively contribute to the development of the nation.

Bishop Dr Yaw Owusu Ansah, the Regional Overseer of Resurrection Power and Living Bread Ministries International, Accra West, said the best way for parents to nurture those talents was to encourage their children to participate in church activities.

‘‘If we don’t encourage children to delight themselves in God’s house, they would go wayward,” he said.

The Regional Overseer made these remarks during a Children’s Day Celebration held in Accra n Sunday.

He quoted the scriptures, saying: “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

Bishop Owusu Ansah said all children were born with talents and that they did not need to grow old before God could use them.

What mattered, he said, was that parents would be able to notice those potentials at an early age and help the children tap into them.

He said being harsh could not transform and groom a child but only the word of God has the power to cause real transformation.

“Let us all bear in mind that these children will succeed us one day. That is why it is important for us to always have a succession plan so that when we are no more, our kids can take over and continue making an impact,” he added.

The Bishop said most parents failed to nurture their children’s potentials because they feared the children would fail.

He, therefore, advised that the opportunity should be given to them and even if they failed, it would provide them with the experiential knowledge.
