Parking of trucks along roads in Sekondi/Takoradi to be banned

Takoradi, Aug 03, GNA - The Department of Urban Roads, in collaboration with other institutions, would soon ban articulated trucks from parking along roads in the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolis. Apart from the dangers these trucks loaded with cocoa and other good pose to other road users they also spill oil on the roads, thereby reducing their lifespan.

Mr Stephen Attipoe, the Urban Roads Maintenance Engineer who was addressing journalists on Wednesday, called on the Cocoa Marketing Company to built warehouses at the outskirts of Takoradi for the storage of cocoa transported from the hinterlands for export.

Mr Justice Amoh, Managing Director of Justmoh Construction Limited that is asphalting roads in the Takoradi Harbour business area, said the government had sunk billions of cedis into the project and that the roads would be damaged in no time if heavy trucks were allowed to park at the shoulders for long periods.

Mr Amoh appealed to the Department of Urban Roads and the Shama Ahanta East Metropolitan Assembly to take action against private and public institutions that dig trenches across roads without refilling them.
