Parliament organizes education programme

Nkwanta (V/R), Dec. 11, GNA- The Public Affairs Directorate of Parliament, in conjunction with the National Commission of Civic Education (NCCE), have organized a day's education outreach programme dubbed "meet the people" in the Nkwanta South Constituency. The programmed had financial support from DANIDA and is a pilot project in the two constituencies.

Mr. Gershon Bediako Gbediame, MP for Nkwanta South, answered questions on water, sanitation, roads, health and education and said he had spent over 500 million cedis of his share of the MP's Common Fund and the GETFund on development projects in the constituency this year. He said he had spent about 250 million of his share of the Common Fund on education.

One hundred million cedis from the GETFund was spent on infrastructure for schools in the area while about 150 million cedis was used to support students. He registered 57 students from Ntruboman Senior High School for next year's West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (WASSCE).

He also supported over 60 students financially to be able to pay their admission and hostel accommodation fees. Mr. Gbediame said he assisted Ntruboman Literacy Project with 10 million cedis and provided a satellite dish for Nkwanta Senior High School to be used for educational exchange programmes. He supported the Nkwanta District Health Directorate with 150 million cedis from his HIPC Fund to be used as logistical support during the national polio immunization exercise and for the provision of facilities at some of the Community Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds at Kue, Alokpatsa, Kapiti, Ofosu and Salifu. He spent over 100 million cedis in supporting some communities in sinking wells, rehabilitating broken down boreholes and constructing drainage systems.
