Parliament has approved the Ghana Boundary Commission Bill, 2023, following its third reading on Wednesday, December 18, 2024. The new legislation aims to enhance Ghana’s ability to effectively address boundary demarcation and disputes.

Major General Dr. Emmanuel Wekem Kotia, Commissioner General of the Ghana Boundary Commission, expressed optimism regarding the bill’s passage.

He explained that the bill would empower the Commission to manage boundary issues with greater authority. He indicated that the bill aligns the Commission’s mandate with international best practices.

The bill also grants the body the ability to implement social interventions aimed at easing the challenges faced by residents in deprived border communities.

“The passage of this bill strengthens our mandate, and I believe Ghana will be the ultimate winner as we work toward resolving boundary-related issues,” Dr. Kotia said. He stressed that the bill will also help Ghana maintain peace and stability along its borders while improving the lives of those in border areas.
