Parliament has passed the National Service Authority Bill 2024, establishing a mobilising force that will post qualified individuals to areas of national priority, promoting national development and employability.
The bill sets up the authority as a corporate body with legal capacity to develop and implement policies and programmes for national service.
The Executive Director of the National Service Scheme, Osei Assibey Antwi, expressed excitement about the bill's passage and its potential benefits during a media engagement in Accra.
"We have a vibrant youth, a youth with a future, a youth with direction, and a youth guided by policy, especially with our new direction of deployment for employment. This bill will enhance our efforts," he said, according to myjoyonline.com.
Osei Assibey Antwi further stated that the bill's passage would enable the authority to generate internal funds, complementing government efforts in creating employment opportunities for the youth.
"We have been given autonomy and powers to enhance entrepreneurship and generate internal funds, reducing the burden on central government. We are confident the President will assent to it," he added.
The object of the bill is to establish the National Service Authority to mobilise and post persons qualified to undertake national service in areas of national priority for national development.
